ABOUT OUR TRAINING
Venepuncture Training Information
WASP'S training is held in a warm, friendly, professional medical health simulated environment providing our students with up to date theory and practice in Venepuncture, Pathology Techniques and Procedures, with experienced tutors working with each student over two days of training (2 days with 2 units of competency), or over the five days of training (five days for W.A, Perth 5 day training on three units of competency). Working with each student in small face-to-face learning environments ensures that our students receive the most out of their training as possible.
Training Locations:
Perth, W.A: We are based in Perth, and our office and training rooms are located: Unit 29/9 Vision Street Wangara, Perth
Student's competency is assessed through a combination of practical application and demonstrations of skills, oral and written presentations, group activities, observation, role plays. Assessments are conducted in a simulated environment.
In addition to successfully completing the units of competency, students must complete at least 35 hours of work placement and have evidence documented down with at least 20 blood collections documented correctly, to be awarded the HLTPAT002 Perform venous blood collection
This means; In addition to practical and written assessments; Students who show competency with unit HLTPAT002 Perform venous blood collection, will receive their log booklet and be required to complete this within a 6 months period, starting from the date the log booklet is received.
Students will also be assessed during their work placement, and may be required to supply video recordings of work placement to their trainer/assessor to be assessed with feedback given on student/s performance/environment.

If a student/s are unable to complete the work placement and a minimum of 20 blood collections, a Statement of Completion will be issued.
Students receive:

Learner manuals, which are in detail and have all information needed for each unit being studied.

Assessment booklets, covering exams, work sheets, and all theory tasks that are to be completed throughout the training, all assessment booklets are designed so that they are easy to read and understand, but detailed enough to know how each student will be assessed on each assessment outlined.

Students are supplied with their own equipment to work with. Practical skills are assessed individually over the two days/5 days, and each student receives constant guidance, feedback and supervision throughout their training.

Students who show competency with unit HLTPAT002 Perform venous blood collections, will receive their log booklet and be required to complete this within a 6 months period, starting from the date the log booklet is received.

Students will also be assessed during their work placement, and may be required to supply video recordings of work placement to their trainer/assessor to be assessed with feedback given on student/s performance/environment. This is generally completed over 2 weeks: ( please keep in mind this can take anywhere from 1 week to 6 months or longer for a student to find placement, depending on the industry itself. If its taking some time for placement, the W.A School of Pathology will extend the completion time frame allocated, this can only be done with authorisation from your trainer/assessor. (this is explained in each students log booklet)

Work insurance cover is provided and paid for by the W.A School of Pathology for the duration of placement.
All units studied with the W.A School of Pathology are nationally recognised units of competency.
